Digital immigration status can feel invisible until someone asks you to prove it. For many people in the UK, an eVisa is accessed through a UKVI account rather than a physical document, and a share code may be needed for work, rent or other checks.
For Arab and MENA-origin women arriving for study, work, family life or a new start, the practical issue is not only “Do I have status?” It is also: can I open the account, receive the security code, understand what the screen says and generate the right share code without depending completely on someone else?
Make access part of your first-month admin
GOV.UK guidance explains that online immigration status is viewed through official digital routes. Keep your UKVI login email, phone number and identity document details up to date. If a partner, relative, agent or friend helped create an account, check that you still have direct access yourself.
Do not share more than the checker needs
A share code is designed for a specific purpose, such as proving right to work. It is not an invitation to send screenshots of every immigration page into WhatsApp groups or public comments. Employers and landlords should use official checking services; if something feels unusual, ask for the request in writing and seek qualified advice.
If the account does not work
Login problems can be mundane: an old phone number, a changed passport, spelling differences or a forgotten email. They can also become stressful if your rent, job or travel depends on them. Use official help routes and keep dated notes of what you tried. Students should also speak to their university international advice team.
What to do today
- Check that you can sign in to the UKVI account yourself.
- Save the official View and Prove page, not a forwarded link.
- Record which email and phone receive security codes.
- Do not post screenshots showing immigration status, passport details or share codes in public spaces.
