Digital immigration status is only useful if you can open the account when someone needs to check it. Before travel, a new job, a tenancy check, university admin or a benefits/service question, take time to make sure your UKVI account details still match your real life.
For Arab and MENA-origin women in the UK, this is not just a technical chore. A changed phone number, an old email controlled by someone else, a renewed passport, a spelling variation or a forgotten sign-in route can turn a normal check into a stressful day. If someone helped you set up your account, make sure you can still access it yourself.
Check access before the urgent moment
Use the official GOV.UK pages to access and update your account. Do not rely on a screenshot saved months ago. A share code or online checker may be needed for an employer, landlord or other authorised check, and those routes depend on current account details.
Keep your login private
It can be normal for a partner, parent, sponsor, university adviser or friend to help with digital forms. But your email, phone and one-time codes are part of your own legal record. If you need help, sit beside the helper rather than handing over long-term access.
What to do today
- Sign in from the official GOV.UK route.
- Check email, phone, name and passport/travel-document details.
- Practise where to create a share code, without sharing it publicly.
- If the account is inaccessible, keep dated notes and use official help routes.
